What is Nomad Gallery?
Nomad Gallery is a mobile, transportable exhibition space designed to bring art to the public—anywhere, anytime. It exists to support emerging artists by providing accessible opportunities to showcase their work beyond the confines of traditional gallery spaces.
Mission
To empower young artists by removing institutional limitations.
To foster community and shared artistic growth.
To extend the boundaries of art practice through mobile and off-site exhibitions.
To create new spaces for dialogue, visibility, and inclusion in the art world.
Phase One: Building the Gallery
The project begins with constructing a mobile gallery unit at the 280 Woodshop.
The structure will measure 6 ft x 6 ft x 7 ft, designed to disassemble into two parts for easier transportation.
Materials will be sourced from school suppliers, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Amazon.
The gallery will be a scaled-down yet fully functional art space, featuring essential gallery components at one-third scale.
It is intended as a flexible, evolving structure that can grow and adapt with future needs.
Phase Two: Participation & Public Exhibition
Nomad Gallery will collaborate with Us Gallery Contemporary, a student-led club at SAIC, to issue open calls for artists.
Selected artists will exhibit their work inside the mobile gallery.
Once completed, the gallery will be rolled through Chicago’s Loop, making spontaneous exhibitions accessible to the public.
A formal opening reception will take place at Millennium Park, positioning the gallery alongside major institutions in a symbolic gesture of inclusivity.
Phase Three: Nomadic Installations
The gallery will make multiple stops, each with its own conceptual framing:
Near the Art Institute of Chicago – as a critique and response to the traditional “white cube” space, institutional hierarchies, and the inaccessibility of art education.
Millennium Park – chosen for its high foot traffic and public accessibility, inviting new audiences to engage with contemporary art.
SAIC Campus Installation – a culminating presentation inviting peers and visitors to contribute and interact, turning the gallery into a living archive of creative expression.
Why Nomad Gallery?
Because art belongs to everyone.
Nomad Gallery creates new histories—on the move, in the open, and with the people.
After six months of dedicated work, Niya and Nuridtzy have brought this mobile gallery platform to life—
an effort to redefine the gallery experience by bringing art directly to the public and transforming everyday spaces into immersive, accessible artistic encounters.
